The Jeep SUV Story

As is well known, Jeep traces its legacy back to the fires of World War II and made its name by building one of the most rugged military vehicles ever designed. But while the military Jeep was an incredibly popular vehicle, customers also wanted something larger and more refined for their daily lives. And it was this popular demand that led to the creation of Jeep’s SUV lineup. Indeed, Jeep was among the very first companies to use the “sports utility vehicle” label for its products, and the 1984 Jeep Cherokee pioneered the very idea of a compact crossover SUV. With this rich history of the Jeep brand, it is impossible to go wrong with a Jeep SUV.

Currently, Jeep offers five different SUV models spanning the full range of sizes and capabilities. The smallest model is the subcompact Jeep Renegade, a nimble design that is equally at home on city streets or wilderness trails. The larger Jeep Compass is an efficient and comfortable compact SUV that makes for a great daily driver. However, if you are looking for a bit more power and luxury, then the compact Jeep Cherokee is another excellent all-around option. At the top of the line is the midsize Jeep Grand Cherokee, which sports rear-wheel drive and some incredible engine options. Finally, there is the iconic Jeep Wrangler with its unique design and no-compromise off-road performance. Each of these vehicles has its own advantages, so take your time comparing them to determine which one is the right choice for your needs.

Jeep Dependability and Durability

No matter which of the five Jeep SUV models you buy, you will be treated to a vehicle that you can count on in any situation. Whether you are running errands or exploring the wilderness, you need a vehicle that is dependable and durable to get through your day. Jeep understands that and builds its SUVs to handle anything that they might encounter. Unlike most other manufacturers, which usually build their SUVs on the same platforms that they use for their cars, all of Jeep’s models are designed from the ground up as SUVs. This gives all of the Jeep models unmatched performance in bad weather and rough terrain.

The inherent advantages of Jeep’s designs are further enhanced through the use of advanced features. Jeep was one of the early pioneers of modern four-wheel drive systems, and its Active Drive, Quadra-Trac, Command-Trac, and Rock-Trac systems continue to be some of the best on the market. This gives you the edge you need to safely make it through low-traction situations from rainstorms to rock crawling. Other available features that increase the dependability and durability of Jeep SUVs include limited slip and locking differentials to further increase traction, or rock rails and skid plates to prevent damage to the vehicle. Altogether, there are few other SUVs on the road that can stick with what Jeep has to offer when the going gets tough.

The Jeep Trail Rated Badge

Every Jeep SUV produced is a highly capable and dependable vehicle that is designed to get you through any situation that you will encounter on the road as well as handle light off-roading. However, if you plan to adventure deep into the wild with your Jeep, then look for a vehicle bearing Jeep’s vaunted Trail Rated badge. These SUVs come from the factory with numerous upgrades designed to make them capable of serious off-roading. These enhancements generally include items such as upgraded suspension, higher ground clearance, and improved water fording, enhanced wheels and tires, and tow hooks and skid plates. And of course, every Trail Rated vehicle comes standard with four-wheel drive.

In keeping with the company’s off-road focus, every single Jeep SUV model has a Trail Rated variant. This means that no matter which of these designs best fits your personal needs, you will be able to find one ready to venture off-road straight from the factory. In the case of the iconic Jeep Wrangler, every single trim carries the Trail Rated badge in recognition of the design’s incredible inherent performance. However, for the other four Jeep SUVs, the Trail Rated badge is found on their Trailhawk trims. In addition to their enhanced off-road abilities, the Trailhawk is one of Jeep’s higher trim levels and also comes with plenty of luxury and technology improvements.

What are the Jeep SUV models?

Currently, Jeep offers five SUV different models, including the iconic Jeep Wrangler. While these five different vehicles cover a wide range of sizes and price points, all of them are ready for adventure. If you are unfamiliar with the different Jeep SUV models, here is a brief rundown of how they compare. But for more details, feel free to ask the team here at Orange Coast, we are always happy to talk about the vehicles on our lot.

The smallest of the five Jeep SUVs is the Jeep Renegade. A subcompact design, the Renegade is a great choice for drivers looking for a nimble and efficient vehicle. However, unlike many other subcompact SUVs, the Renegade is a rugged design that is fully capable of venturing into the wild. The other efficient option in the Jeep lineup is the Jeep Compass. Slightly larger than the Renegade, the Compass fits into the compact class and can comfortably seat five or carry large items in its impressively large cargo area.

While the Compass is a remarkably comfortable and efficient vehicle, it lacks some of the options available on the other Jeep SUV models. If you do desire more power and features, then the Jeep Cherokee is the way to go. Although it is close in size to the Compass, the Cherokee has far more options and is significantly more capable. However, the ultimate Jeep SUV is the midsize Jeep Grand Cherokee. Despite its name, the Grand Cherokee is entirely unrelated to the Cherokee and is the only one of Jeep’s four more conventional SUVs that uses a rear-wheel drive platform. This gives the Grand Cherokee a significant performance advantage and allows it to take full advantage of its powerful V8 engine options.

Finally, there is the Jeep Wrangler. This iconic vehicle is built from the ground up to for uncompromised off-road performance and offers many unique features unavailable on any other SUV. Sold as both a nimble two-door and as the more versatile four-door Wrangler Unlimited, the Wrangler is a timeless emblem of the Jeep brand. The ultimate version of the Wrangler is the Rubicon trim, which comes with countless performance upgrades, but even the base models of this SUV offer unmatched capability. If you desire to challenge the most difficult trails or simply want to enjoy an open air driving experience, then the Jeep Wrangler is the only choice.

However, while the five Jeep SUV models all have their own strengths and unique features, they are all Jeep products and fully live up to the brand’s reputation for ruggedness and reliability. Any of these models will have no problem seeing you safely through bad weather or handling excursions along back country roads. And if you have something more challenging in mind, then all five Jeep SUVs are available in Trail Rated versions that can take anything nature may throw at them. So no matter which of these excellent vehicles catches your eye, rest assured that it will more than live up to the Jeep reputation.

Our Favorite Places for Lunch

If you are visiting our dealership and are interested in having lunch before leaving the area, there are plenty of places where you can either catch a quick bite to eat or to sit down for a more relaxing meal. No matter what type of food you like, you are sure to find multiple places serving it nearby. But if you want some local knowledge to help you find the right place, then here are some of our favorite local restaurants and cafes. And if nothing here interests you, then feel free to ask the staff here for additional recommendations.

The closest option for some quick food is the Deli & Bagel cafe located in the small plaza adjacent to our dealership. While you will not find any large meals here, they do have a great selection of bagels and sandwiches if you want something lighter and more convenient. They also have a fairly large selection of coffees and smoothies as well as a juice bar.

On the other end of the spectrum, we strongly recommend trying Taco Maria for some high quality Mexican food. Located a couple of blocks north of us, this is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city and even offers four-course meals with wine pairings in addition to its simpler take out menu. Anything you order here will be cooked to perfection, but plan ahead because it can be busy.

If you are in the mood for some Middle Eastern food, then we encourage you to try out The Kebab Shop. Located on the next street down from our dealership, this small local chain produces quick quality food with a hint of the exotic. Their Crave Fries with pickled onion, garlic yogurt, feta cheese, and mint are surprisingly good, and if you want a tasty dessert, be sure to try their baklava.

And if you want something quick and easy, then there are also plenty of popular fast food places nearby. The next door plaza has a Little Caesars, while the mall across the street contains a Panera Bread, a Pizza Hut, and a Starbucks. Drive a bit further up the street you will also find a McDonalds, a Chick-fil-A, and an In-N-Out Burger. While the food at these places may not be quite up to par with that from our favorite restaurants, they do give you plenty of simple options if you do not have the time to enjoy a more relaxing meal before continuing your journey.

How to Reach Orange Coast

Our dealership is conveniently located in Costa Mesa right off Interstate 405. This makes it easy to reach us from any part of the greater Los Angeles area. When traveling to us from the north west and the direction of Long Beach, we are a straight shot south along Interstate 405. Just follow the highway until Exit 11B, turn right at the end of the off ramp onto Harbor Boulevard, and we are about a mile down the road on your right.

From the south east, Interstate 405 is again the fastest way to get to us, although from this direction, you will be heading northbound. You will also likely be beginning your journey on Interstate 5, and you will need to pay attention when Interstate 405 splits off at Exit 94A. Once on Interstate 405, follow it until Exit 11. Once you have exited the highway, make sure to stay in the left lane until you reach the intersection with Harbor Boulevard. Then turn left and our dealership will be about a mile down the road on your right.

To reach us from the north, your best bet will probably be Route 55 south. Depending on your starting location, you may need to first take Interstate 5 south to Exit 103, which will put you on Route 55. Once southbound on Route 55, look for Exit 6A to get onto Interstate 405. However, you will not be on Interstate 405 long before taking Exit 11. Remain in the left lane after exiting until you reach the end of the road and then turn left onto Harbor Boulevard. We will then be about a mile down the road on your right.
