About
Half-ton trucks have become an American staple, and many people enjoy being able to work and play through all kinds of scenarios, thanks to their trusty pickup truck. Even if you do not tow regularly, most people still appreciate being able to pull a trailer from time to time. Half-ton trucks are constantly improving to become more capable and rugged, but also more refined and convenient. The half-ton pickup trucks of today are the perfect balance of towing, hauling, and rugged capability, along with comfort, technology, and sophistication, and the new 2021 Ram 1500 is a spectacular example of today's top-notch trucks.
There are certain advantages that come with owning a truck that is as versatile as the 2021 Ram 1500. The new Ram can tow and haul like all trucks should be able to, but it offers far more than just brute force and power. With previous years receiving awards such as the Green Car Journal's Green Truck of the Year and Consumer Guide's Best Buy Award, you do not need to wonder if the new Ram 1500 has the features and capabilities that you need to accomplish everything you need in your life.

The 2021 Ram 1500 has multiple engine options available for you to choose from, depending on what you are trying to do. For example, thanks to the 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque offered by the 5.7L Hemi V8 with eTorque, you could get an impressive towing capacity of up to 12,750 lbs. The eTorque feature is especially interesting for a number of reasons.
Engines with eTorque are capable of getting more power to the wheels more quickly. Gas engines always need a small amount of time to work up to 100% output, but by adding electric motors, all of the power is available immediately, which gives the truck an extra boost. This is also why this engine gives the Ram such incredible towing power. The 5.7L Hemi V8 engine with eTorque is a really great option for those who need maximum towing ability without sacrificing fuel economy.
If you don't need the extra engine power for towing but still want a gas engine, then the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine with eTorque is a good option. This V6 will give you 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, and this can translate into 7,730 lbs of towing capacity. For many people, this is plenty of towing capacity and is a good way to get a rugged and capable truck that isn't over the top. If you don't plan on towing anything excessive, this engine option is a good way to save a little bit of money on your new truck.
For all of you diesel engine fans out there, the 2021 Ram 1500 also has a diesel engine available, namely the 3.0L Ecodiesel V6. This diesel engine option provides 480 lb-ft of torque and 12,560 lbs of towing capacity. Diesel engines in half-ton trucks are a fairly new development, but that didn't stop the 2021 Ram 1500 diesel engine from achieving best in class torque and towing out of any diesel-powered half-ton truck on the market today.
If you do a lot of long-distance driving or hauling, the diesel engine is going to be a particularly good option for you thanks to its excellent range and fuel economy. Additionally, diesel engines have a history of lasting longer than gas engines, which is reflected in the warranties. The diesel engine has a 100,000-mile warranty, which is 40,000 miles more than the gas engines offer. But really, all of the Ram 1500 engine options are good for varying circumstances, which means no matter your individual lifestyle, there is a Ram truck for you.
The 2021 Ram 1500 has some unique features that give you loading and storage options that are worth talking about. First, let's talk about tailgates. Traditional tailgates open by the entire piece swinging up and down at a 90-degree angle, but the 2021 Ram does so much more than that. In addition to the tailgate operating in a traditional fashion, the new Ram 1500 also has a tailgate that opens wide like a double french door with a 60/40 split.
Why does this french door style tailgate matter? Well, whenever you are loading and unloading cargo, this french door style tailgate will make you wonder how you ever lived without it. With a traditional tailgate, you lean over the tailgate or awkwardly climb over to get to the bed of the truck. But with the french door style, you can reach deep into the bed with ease or quickly climb up using the rear step and bumper. No matter what you are loading, the option of a swing-out tailgate makes things easier.
If you need to load around something really long, too long for the tailgate to close, you still have the option of folding it down like a traditional tailgate to get those extra couple of inches you need. When this tailgate is hanging open, it can hold up to 2000 lbs, which is a big deal when you need your truck to work hard for you. Additionally, when you're done working, the tailgate has a power assist option that makes closing the tailgate incredibly easy.
On the topic of Ram's cargo features, let's talk about all of the unique storage options available in this pickup. A popular accessory at auto parts stores is aftermarket boxes that give your pickup truck even more storage space. However, the new Ram 1500 removes the need for these aftermarket boxes with storage boxes built directly into the side of the bed. These boxes are weather-tight, lockable, include a drainage hole, and even offer 115-volt power outlets. You can use your box as both a cooler and a storage box, and you can rest assured knowing nothing in your storage box will ever grow legs and walk away.
One popular safety feature the 2021 Ram offers is what's called a heads up display. Ram's heads up display puts important information directly in front of you, so you don't need to take your eyes off the road for even a moment. This includes information such as your truck's current speed in comparison to the local speed limit.
Additionally, the Ram 1500 has a rearview mirror that can double as a real-time rearview camera. If you ever find your back window covered up or blocked by a load, just swap over to the camera, and all is well. No longer do drivers have to blindly wonder what's behind them just because the cab or bed is filled to the brim. Finally, the Ram 1500 also has an available 360-degree Surround View Camera and available power-folding trailering mirrors to help complete the view.
The 2021 Ram also comes with even more eyes in the form of sensors that are designed to give you a heads up on things you can't see, making it even easier to avoid dangerous situations. One of these available features is forward collision warning with active braking. In a perfect world, nothing would ever surprise you, and you would anticipate everything. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world, and unexpected and unpredictable situations are all around us. Forward collision warning works to protect drivers from unexpected stops or slow-downs and provides the vehicle with extra braking pressure so that even more accidents can be avoided.
Another available safety feature is LaneSense, a lane departure warning system that is designed to alert drivers when they inadvertently leave their lane. Pedestrian emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring are other important safety features that are designed to keep an eye out for situations you might have unintentionally missed, keeping you and your family safe. Blind-spot monitoring even takes into account the calculations of your specific trailer so that when you are driving a longer vehicle than you are used to, those sensors are still helping to keep you from hitting anything that snuck into your blind spot. Imperfect driving happens to even the best of us, and Ram works hard to provide drivers with safety features such as these so that a moment of weakness does not cost you or anybody else a life.
With a big and capable truck such as the Ram 1500, safety features should not be limited to the truck itself. For many people, the most dangerous times spent behind the wheel are when they are dealing with the added weight and size that comes with towing a trailer. Because of this, safety features that are designed to keep you safe while driving with a trailer are critical in any modern truck. This is where the 2021 Ram 1500 safety features really shine.
The 2021 Ram 1500 watches out for you and your trailer. This truck offers electronic stability control that is designed to help keep you in control of the truck during emergency maneuvers. Unfortunately, we cannot predict when we will need to swerve to avoid colliding with something, even when we know that swerving while towing a trailer is especially dangerous. The electronic stability control provides Ram drivers with an extra boost of safety that will help prevent the trailer from flipping or jack-knifing.
