  • 4xe

The 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe represents Jeep’s most advanced powertrain technology ever. Known for its class-leading four-wheel drive systems, this new foray into the alternative fuel category marks a true turning point for Jeep. This is especially true because of Jeep’s deep association with outdoor adventure: environmental stewardship is a natural extension of everything the brand stands for.

With the plug-in hybrid powertrain, Grand Cherokee 4xe drivers can choose from three different driving modes: Hybrid Mode, Electric Mode, and eSave Mode. When you select Hybrid Mode, power derives from both the lithium-ion battery and the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, delivering maximum horsepower with the thrill of instantly available torque for brisk acceleration. Switching to Electric Mode gets you up to 24 miles of emissions-free travel, and toggling to eSave isolates power to the gas engine alone.

    Plug-In to Charge

Jeep is committed to providing its customers access to charging stations right where they’re most needed – at the base of the country’s most popular off-road trails. These solar-powered charging stations are just one part of Jeep’s bigger goal of substantially reducing greenhouse gases. Will your travels take you to Moab or the Rubicon Trail? Maybe not, but as a Jeep owner, you can feel enormous pride of ownership just knowing they exist.

Every Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe comes with a Level I charging cord that’s sufficient to charge the battery fully in just 12 hours. If you want faster charging capability, Jeep offers an optional Level II charger that gets to a full charge in just two hours. Home installation is fast, easy, and supported by Jeep, and the plug-in process is as easy as plugging in your smartphone. The goal is to make plug-in hybrid ownership convenient and almost second nature.

    The 4xe Advantage

For many buyers, making the shift to an all-electric vehicle just isn’t practical. Perhaps their town doesn’t offer enough charging stations, or it’s not possible to park the vehicle near an outlet for overnight charging. The Grand Cherokee 4xe is the perfect blend of traditional gas power and cutting-edge EV technology, allowing drivers to experience the myriad benefits of EV ownership, such as near-silent operation, without downsides like range anxiety and the learning curve associated with transitioning to electric power.

  • Performance

A white and black 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is shown off-roading through a mud puddle.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe puts to rest any notion that “going green” requires sacrificing performance. In fact, the GC 4xe is among the most powerful Grand Cherokees ever made. It offers abundant torque and horsepower, which contributes to its versatility and subsequent popularity across a broad spectrum of drivers. With 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of instantly available torque, the GC 4xe doesn’t disappoint either on the road or off, and it’s particularly potent in times where swift acceleration is needed, such as merging onto the highway.

It’s not uncommon to find plenty of Grand Cherokees parked in suburban driveways and soccer field parking lots, but a subset of buyers choose this popular SUV for its off-roading prowess. For these buyers, a weekend in the mountains is far more enjoyable behind the wheel of an upscale SUV. The concept of a spartan interior with vinyl seats and removable doors is not attractive. Within the 4xe lineup, you’ll find trims specifically designed for this purpose.

    Off-Road Capability

The Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk is one such trim. It features protective skid plates, red tow hooks, and special exterior badging. The standard Quadra-Trac II 4x4 System includes a rear electronic limited-slip differential and Quadra-Lift Air Suspension that automatically adapts to different driving conditions to optimize ground clearance. It lowers for better aerodynamics on the highway and raises to up to 11.3 inches for more ground clearance when off-roading.

The Trailhawk includes a unique sway bar disconnect feature that improves both articulation and agility, especially over rocks or more rugged, uneven terrain. The available surround-view camera comes in handy both on and off the road, offering a 360-degree bird’s eye view of the area around the vehicle, and the 6,000-pound towing capacity comes in handy for hauling a boat or camper to weekend adventures.

    Safety Comes First

Capability and performance don’t mean much without supportive safety and driver-assist systems. Jeep incorporates dozens of safety systems into the new Grand Cherokee 4xe – 110 to be exact – including Active Driving Assist and Hands-Free Active Driving Assist. Utilizing sensors, radar, cameras, and connected technology, these systems assist with basic driving functions and constantly monitor the area around the vehicle to ensure no imminent hazards exist. These systems help with everything from maintaining an optimal distance from the vehicle ahead of you on the highway to avoiding potentially catastrophic collisions.

  • Features

Drivers hoping to elevate comfort and refinement alongside enhanced capability and environmental stewardship will appreciate the Grand Cherokee 4xe’s long list of luxurious and high-tech cabin appointments. All Grand Cherokee 4xe trims offer a large 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with connected navigation that sends directions with real-time traffic updates.

The infotainment screen runs on the latest Uconnect 5 operating system for lightning-fast response and easy customization features. The system allows for dual-phone connectivity and is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing for easier smartphone content streaming. Add Jeep Connect, and your smartphone becomes a virtual remote. Sound your horn, check charge levels, and remote start your GC 4xe, all right from the app.

McIntosh Sound and Amazon Fire TV

Jeep values passenger entertainment almost as much as vehicle capability. This is no more evident than the automaker’s decision to offer a segment-exclusive 19-speaker premium McIntosh audio system that produces 950 watts of sound and includes a 10-inch subwoofer. The speakers are located strategically to take full advantage of cabin acoustics, resulting in concert-grade sound output.

Your shotgun passenger and rear occupants aren’t left out, either. Opt for the available passenger infotainment touchscreen, and your companion can dial in navigation settings, take over as mix master, and even control the rear-seat entertainment screens for younger passengers without having to stop the vehicle. The dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system includes Amazon Fire streaming TV, and each screen can work individually so the kids won’t fight about what to watch.

    A Luxurious Ride

Considered the most luxurious vehicle in the midsize SUV category, the 2022 Grand Cherokee embodies refinement. The five 4xe trims – Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve – include progressively more high-end luxury features, but the Summit Reserve stands alone. Featuring buttery soft Palermo leather seats, it contains the most standard luxury features and represents the highest expression of the Grand Cherokee 4xe.
