The Grand Cherokee L comes standard with Jeep's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, a seven-time winner of the Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems Award. Known for its power, efficiency, and handling, the engine constantly meets the demands of the terrain and the driver to optimize performance and efficiency with fuel-saving stop-start technology. Mated to a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, the engine delivers 290 horsepower and 257 lb-ft of torque to make the Grand Cherokee L quick to accelerate and responsive at any speed. It's also responsible for a towing capacity of 6,200 pounds, which means the freedom to haul exactly what you need for your next adventure on the trail.

Fortunately, that's not the case for the 2022 Grand Cherokee L since Jeep gives drivers the option between three remarkable four-wheel-drive systems: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II. Quadra-Trac I is a full-time system that monitors for tire slippage and sends all available torque to the tire with the most traction. Quadra-Trac II adds a two-speed transfer case with a lower gear range that relies on multiple sensors to actively adjust the distribution of torque. With its lower gear ratio, the system is ideal for navigating harsh terrain.
The Grand Cherokee L's Quadra-Drive II system builds on the Quadra-Trac II system by adding a rear electronic limited slip-differential to optimize performance. The system constantly monitors the terrain and tire slippage, actively distributing torque as needed. It can even anticipate low traction conditions and proactively distribute torque before tire slippage occurs.
While the Grand Cherokee L's three available four-wheel-drive systems are impressive, Jeep extends the SUV's capability with the Selec-Terrain traction management system and available features like the Quadra-Lift air suspension. The class-leading Selec-Terrain system allows you to customize how the SUV performs based on the terrain. Using a toggle switch, you can select between modes (Auto, Sport, Snow, or Mud/Sand) to finetune the throttle, steering, suspension, brakes, transmission, etc.
The Quadra-Lift air suspension system maximizes the Grand Cherokee L's prowess and performance on the road to deliver a class-leading ground clearance of 10.9 inches and 24 inches of water fording capability. The suspension system also improves the Grand Cherokee L's approach, departure, and breakover angles at 30.1 degrees, 23.6 degrees, and 22.6 degrees, respectively.
