The Jeep Grand Cherokee turned heads with its debut in 1993 because it proved the rugged capability of the Jeep brand didn't have to come at the cost of luxury, innovation, or convenience. Setting a new benchmark for an on and off-road SUV, the Grand Cherokee has since become the most awarded SUV ever made. Today, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L extends that legacy as the three-row version of Jeep's best-selling SUV.

The Grand Cherokee L made its debut in 2021 to widespread acclaim as it filled a vacant gap in the Jeep lineup for families looking for a rugged, three-row SUV that could match their sense of adventure and wanderlust. Taking design cues from the luxurious Wagoneer, the Grand Cherokee L is stylish and sophisticated, capable and innovative. What's even better is that it's also affordable.

Literally and figuratively extending the Grand Cherokee's legacy and size, the 2022 Grand Cherokee L is a remarkable road warrior that builds on everything drivers love about the most awarded SUV ever built. Like its two-row counterpart, it can blaze a new trail, navigate your commute, and easily accommodate school pick-ups and drop-offs. It's a family-sized adventurer of the modern era and one that's been long overdue in the Jeep lineup.

  • Performance

A true Jeep at its core, the 2022 Grand Cherokee L lives up to Jeep's promise that it's the most capable, technologically advanced, and luxurious Grand Cherokee yet. This starts with the choice between two award-winning powertrains that are both powerful and efficient. So, what are your choices?

    The Pentastar V6

The Grand Cherokee L comes standard with Jeep's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, a seven-time winner of the Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems Award. Known for its power, efficiency, and handling, the engine constantly meets the demands of the terrain and the driver to optimize performance and efficiency with fuel-saving stop-start technology. Mated to a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, the engine delivers 290 horsepower and 257 lb-ft of torque to make the Grand Cherokee L quick to accelerate and responsive at any speed. It's also responsible for a towing capacity of 6,200 pounds, which means the freedom to haul exactly what you need for your next adventure on the trail.

    The HEMI V8

If you're looking for more power, Jeep answers that need with the award-winning 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine. Also relying on fuel saver technology to balance efficiency and power, the hearty V8 engine pushes the Grand Cherokee L to a new level of capability. Paired to the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, the engine delivers 357 horsepower, 390 lb-ft of torque, and a class-leading towing capacity of 7,200 pounds.

The fact that the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission is mated to both engines reflects its versatility across a wide range of power. The transmission features gear ratios that keep the engine at the ideal rpm for the terrain or task at hand while delivering crisp, smooth gear changes. When you need more power, the transmission shifts on the fly to deliver the power you need without delay, making the Grand Cherokee L a solid performer whether you're cruising down the highway or blazing a new trail.

  • Capability

What would the Grand Cherokee L be without Jeep's legendary capability? Just another SUV. Fortunately, that's not the case for the 2022 Grand Cherokee L since Jeep gives drivers the option between three remarkable four-wheel-drive systems: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II. Quadra-Trac I is a full-time system that monitors for tire slippage and sends all available torque to the tire with the most traction. Quadra-Trac II adds a two-speed transfer case with a lower gear range that relies on multiple sensors to actively adjust the distribution of torque. With its lower gear ratio, the system is ideal for navigating harsh terrain.

The Grand Cherokee L's Quadra-Drive II system builds on the Quadra-Trac II system by adding a rear electronic limited slip-differential to optimize performance. The system constantly monitors the terrain and tire slippage, actively distributing torque as needed. It can even anticipate low traction conditions and proactively distribute torque before tire slippage occurs.

    Select-Terrain and Quadra-Lift

While the Grand Cherokee L's three available four-wheel-drive systems are impressive, Jeep extends the SUV's capability with the Selec-Terrain traction management system and available features like the Quadra-Lift air suspension. The class-leading Selec-Terrain system allows you to customize how the SUV performs based on the terrain. Using a toggle switch, you can select between modes (Auto, Sport, Snow, or Mud/Sand) to finetune the throttle, steering, suspension, brakes, transmission, etc.

The Quadra-Lift air suspension system maximizes the Grand Cherokee L's prowess and performance on the road to deliver a class-leading ground clearance of 10.9 inches and 24 inches of water fording capability. Normal Ride Height positions the SUV 8.3 inches off the ground while Off-Road 1 lifts the vehicle by 1.6 inches. Off-Road 2 lifts the SUV to its maximum height, Park Mode lowers it 1.8 inches for easy access, and Aero Mode lowers it 0.8 inches for improved aerodynamics, efficiency, and performance on the highway. The suspension system also improves the Grand Cherokee L's approach, departure, and breakover angles at 30.1 degrees, 23.6 degrees, and 22.6 degrees, respectively.

  • Technology

Jeep promises the 2022 Grand Cherokee L is the most technologically advanced Grand Cherokee yet, and the automaker delivers big on that promise. Aside from the SUV's legendary four-wheel-drive systems and Quadra-Lift air suspension working behind the scenes, there's a host of innovative technology in the cabin that's designed to keep you connected, informed, and safe wherever your next adventure leads. This technology starts with the Grand Cherokee L's 10.1-inch touchscreen display that's home to the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and TomTom navigation.

While the Uconnect 5 system gives you access to your smartphone and your favorite apps, you'll find even more data at your fingertips. The available Interior Rear Monitoring Camera gives you a high-definition view of the third-row passengers and the cargo area, while the available Digital Rearview Mirror gives you a wider, less obstructed view of the road behind you. You'll also have control over the Grand Cherokee L from the palm of your hand, courtesy of the Jeep Connect app that allows you to start and stop the engine, lock and unlock the doors, flash the lights, and check the tire pressure.

    A Safe SUV

The Grand Cherokee L's innovative technology extends beyond its connectivity features to a suite of safety and driver-assist tools that enhance your visibility and actively minimize the potential for collision. Offering the most available safety and security features in its class, the 2022 Grand Cherokee L gives you all the confidence you need when you're behind the wheel. That confidence comes from features like Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Full-Speed Collision Warning with Active Braking and Pedestrian/Cyclist Detection, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path Detection, and Active Lane Management.

Jeep gives you plenty of options to extend the Grand Cherokee L's safety suite with a variety of available tools. Active Driving Assist works with adaptive cruise control and lane centering to keep the SUV in its lane while cruising down the road. Intersection Collision Assist monitors busy intersections for potential collisions while the Night Vision Camera scans up to 100 yards ahead for pedestrians and animals. Meanwhile, the Head-Up Display ensures you can keep your eyes on the road by putting the information you need in a full-color, 10-inch display on the windshield ahead.
