Accolades for a New Ram
The 2020 Ram 1500 has already begun winning some key industry awards. For the twelfth year in a row, the Ram 1500 has been named a Consumer Guide Best Buy. In addition, the IIHS (the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) has named the 2020 Ram 1500 Crew Cab with optional front crash prevention and available Adaptive LED headlights a 2019 Top Safety Pick. This shows that the industry knows what you should find out for yourself: the 2020 Ram 1500 is the best truck for you.
New Features for a New Decade
The 2020 Ram 1500 features an available multifunction tailgate. This allows for a 60/40 split on the rear gate, providing greater access to the payload bed. You will find it easier to load and unload bulky items, and to wash out the bed as needed. It also provides the ability to accommodate forklift loading.
Features have also been added to improve the ride of the Ram 1500. The truck now features an active air dam. As the Ram 1500 approaches 30 miles per hour, the front air dam lowers by two-and-one-half inches to reduce the vehicle drag. In addition, there is an available class-exclusive air suspension system designed to provide greater performance efficiency and to further reduce drag when reaching higher speeds. The aerodynamics of the truck have also been improved, providing greater efficiency as well.
The 2020 Ram 1500 has also been designed with greater safety in mind. Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go adjusts the vehicle speed based on the system’s detection of objects in front of the vehicle. It can even bring the truck to a full stop if circumstances dictate. Electronic Stability Control helps you when you are towing by retaining control of the brakes and engine power if you accidentally lose control of the truck. Electronic Roll Mitigation helps you keep your Ram centered, particularly when you are towing. The system automatically reduces engine power and applies brakes if it senses possible high wheel lift, especially when you are making a tight turn. Finally, Hill Start Assist will help prevent roll back if you have to go into gear from a stop while on a steep grade. The system will maintain the brakes as you switch from the brake to the gas pedal.
Four Engines to Choose From
The base engine on the 2020 Ram 1500 is the 3.6-liter V6 24V VVT eTorque engine. This provides up to 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. There are also three other engine options. The 5.7-liter V8 Hemi MDS VVT engine can provide up to 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The 5.7-liter V8 Hemi MDS VVT eTorque engine provides similar numbers, but uses its eTorque system to deliver improved towing capacity. Finally, there is a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine that provides 260 horsepower and up to 480 lb-ft of torque for improved towing as well. All 2020 Ram 1500 trucks feature an 8-speed automatic transmission system.
Speaking of towing, the 2020 Ram 1500 is the ideal truck if you need to tow trailers. When equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 engine, the truck is rated to be able to tow up to 7,730 pounds. Those numbers see a substantial improvement with each of the optional engines. The regular 5.7-liter V8 has been rated to provide a maximum towing capacity of 11,610 pounds. This increases to 12,750 pounds of trailering capacity when the 5.7-liter V8 is matched with an eTorque system. Finally, the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel rounds out the towing capacity to an impressive 12,560 pounds.
The 2020 Ram 1500 is rated to get incredible fuel economy for a truck of its size. The standard 3.6-liter V6 engine has been rated by the EPA to provide drivers with an outstanding 20 miles per gallon in city driving and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. The 5.7-liter V8 has been rated to provide an equally impressive 19 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. This is pretty amazing considering the strength and towing power of this engine.
