The federal and state governments are mandating the rollout of the REAL ID, which goes into effect beginning May 07, 2025. What Is the Real ID?

Californians will need to present a REAL ID for boarding domestic and international flights. Citizens will also need to show this ID when entering certain federal buildings. You will need either a REAL ID or a passport for domestic flights and both for international travel.

Do I Need a REAL ID to Buy a Car?

The good news is that while you’ll need your REAL ID for more day-to-day tasks, car buying isn’t one of them. Likewise, you won’t need it to perform a credit check or get pre-approved at our finance center. You’ll still need other documentation, including a valid driver’s license, proof of income, and proof of address, so gather these before visiting our dealership.

How Do I Get a REAL ID?

To apply for a REAL ID in California, visit your local DMV and provide the required forms of identification along with your Social Security number and proof of residence. A REAL ID is distinguished by the image of a star and/or bear on the upper right corner.
