Here’s some background on the types of Toyotas you may come across when visiting our lot.
Toyota Tacoma
The Toyota Tacoma has been in production since 1995. The first generation, which ran through 2004, offered three engine options. Four-cylinder engines came in 2.4-liter or 2.7-liter designs with a max of 150 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. The largest of the three engines was a 3.4-liter V6 with 190 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque. The first-generation Tacoma was popular among young buyers, perhaps due to a greater focus on ride quality, safety, and comfort.
Toyota unleashed the powerful, second-generation Tacoma at the 2004 Chicago Auto Show. This truly customizable truck came in 18 different configurations with two-bed lengths, four transmissions, two engines, and your choice of regular cab, double cab or access cab. Several updates happened in the second generation, bringing new exterior colors, and upgraded interior and exterior design elements. Its award-winning safety ratings included a 2009 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick Award. By 2013, touchscreen audio systems were added to the Tacoma, taking its tech features to a new level.
Today, the Tacoma is in its third generation. Starting in 2016, the Tacoma took on a fierce new look with stronger bones made of lightweight but high-strength steel. The interior was fully refined with a larger touchscreen, dual climate control, and a leather option. With an added tow package, the third generation Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 pounds. A mix between an efficient and powerful pick-up with many of the luxuries found in modern SUVs and sedans, a used Toyota Tacoma, provides excellent value on the used truck market.

Toyota Tundra
Toyota’s next truck creation came out in 1999, not long after the Tacoma. The Toyota Tundra was technically released after the Tacoma. However, it was the first official full-size pick-up manufactured in the United States by a Japanese company. Specifically, the Tundra was built in Princeton, Indiana, until 2008, when production moved to San Antonio, Texas, where it continues today. Over the years, the Toyota Tundra has won several awards, including being named Truck of the Year in 2000 and 2008 by Motor Trend Magazine.
The Tundra hit the market with a bang for the new millennium, quickly gaining the highest initial vehicle sales for Toyota of all time. Its multiple engine options started with a 3.4-liter V6 with 190 hp, 220 lb-ft of torque, and a 4.7-liter LEV certified 32-valve “i-Force” V8 that produced 245 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque. For a limited time, Toyota offered a supercharged V8 boosting horsepower upwards of 300 and torque to the 400-range. This option was discontinued in 2003. However, a supercharger is still available for the Tundra’s V6 engine.
Safety ratings for the first-generation Tundra were unmatched by other trucks at the time. The Insurance Institute for Highways Safety gave the Tundra its first “Good” rating during the frontal offset crash test, while truck competitors were only rated as “Poor” or “Marginal.”
In 2007, the second (current) generation Tundra was introduced. A towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, along with a payload capacity of over 2,000 pounds, made the Tundra’s new 5.7-liter V8 an instant winner. This powerful engine produces 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. Sticking with Toyota’s commitment to customer satisfaction, the Tundra was made available in 31 possible configurations.
Several upgrades made the Tundra a popular choice for workers. A deck rail system, extra-large door handles, integrated tow hitch, vehicle stability, and traction control, and tailgate assist were just some of the Tundra’s appealing standard features from the get-go. A year after its release, Toyota added 13 more variations to the second-generation, giving customers 44 different variants to choose from.
In 2015, a sixth trim was added, the Tundra TRD Pro. Some design updates came in 2016, along with a larger, 38-gallon fuel tank option. Between its safety ratings, reliability, power, and functional design, a used Tundra makes the perfect companion for any pick-up driver. At Orange Coast, we’re happy to bring you on a test drive for any used Toyota Tundras that graze our lot. When you spot one on our site, be sure to give us a call right away. A great truck like the Tacoma is sure to move quickly, especially with Orange Coast’s competitive pricing.
Toyota SUVs

In addition to its two signature trucks, Toyota offers an impressive line-up of quality SUVs. If you’re looking for ample cargo space and extra seating, (along with some of the same strengths and abilities you’d find in a pick-up), consider an SUV. SUVs are American’s favorite vehicle for a reason. Their inherent versatility meets a range of needs, from day-to-day use, long family road trips, and hauling big purchases from the Home Depot. With so many different packages and trims that have been made available from Toyota over the years, you’ll have no trouble finding the right fit for your lifestyle in a used SUV.
For fuel efficiency, consider a newer-used RAV4 or Highlander. Not only will you enjoy the perks of owning a large vehicle, but you’ll also have the best of both worlds by slashing your gas bill with a hybrid engine. The Land Cruiser and Sequoia are rugged off-road SUVs with high-tech amenities that bring comfort and style to your next outdoor adventure. By choosing a used Toyota SUV, you’ll save a ton of money in depreciation costs. Because Toyota’s are built for longevity, this trusted brand is a lucky find in the pre-owned market.
