The Future of Jeep’s Electric Vehicles
It’s incredible to think of how far electric vehicles have come in the past two decades. In their earliest forms, EVs were limited to smaller sedans with underwhelming powertrains. Then Tesla hit the scene, and EVs began taking off as manufacturer after manufacturer threw their hat in the ring. From those formative years to now, we’ve seen a variety of vehicles embrace fully-electric powertrains and make full use of them.
With trucks and SUVs plugging in and going electric, several manufacturers have sought to utilize the technology and make more options available to consumers. Among the many striving for electrical perfection is Jeep. The brand that helped turn the tide of the Second World War is once again answering the call of duty to take better care of the planet we call home. The future of its fleet is one that includes all-electric Jeep vehicles that will set a new standard for the industry. Come with us now as we examine the future that will be cleaner, greener, and built by the winners.
The Beginnings of Jeep’s Electric Fleet
While we’ll mainly be focussing on the electric future of the Jeep fleet, it’s important that we touch upon Jeep’s past electric accomplishments. In 2021 Jeep demonstrated just how serious it was about providing electrified options to its customers and devotees by electrifying the iconic Jeep Wrangler. The very next year, Jeep rolled out the first-ever electrified Grand Cherokee. Electrifying two vehicles with such incredible legacies was already a monumental achievement for the brand, but what is even more impressive is that the electrified versions were more capable than ever before.
The Wrangler has been the flagship of the Jeep brand since its inception, and the electrified Wrangler 4xe still retains a formidable reputation with its 375 hp and the ability to go from 0-60 mph in a mere 5.5 seconds. Over 20 miles of electric-only range makes the vehicle perfect for short city trips such as the office commute. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe brought electrification to one of the most revered SUVs on the market. While being more environmentally responsible, the Grand Cherokee 4xe has all the capabilities of its gas-powered predecessors. With the ability to ford 24 inches of water and over 11 inches of ground clearance, this electrified SUV was ready for the world of off-roading right out of the gate.
Gazing Into the Future…
Jeep Wrangler EV Prototypes
If the introduction of the Wrangler 4xe was the first indication of Jeep’s ambitions to build an electric fleet, then the Wrangler EV prototypes are that concept fully realized. Two prototypes of the fully electric Wrangler have been dubbed the Magneto and Magneto 2.0. Of all the news circulating about the further development of Jeep’s EV fleet, the work exhibited on these two prototypes is easily the most exciting. By eliminating the need for gasoline in the off-road experience, Jeep has taken off-roading on a path it’s never been down. While there’s no longer a need to stop at the pump, a formidable presence is found within the interior and exterior of the vehicle. The Magneto 2.0 generates the same awesome performance that its predecessors did, with 625 hp, 850 lb-ft of torque, and a six-speed manual transmission. It’s a fitting chapter in the continuous evolution of the Jeep Wrangler and its legacy.
2024 Jeep Recon
It’s no secret that the SUV has achieved industry-wide recognition as the ideal family vehicle. However, there are those who still favor the SUV for its original purposes––embracing the life and adventure contained in off-roading. If you are one of those people, then Jeep’s first production EV is sure to excite you. The 2024 Jeep Recon will surpass any and all expectations. This fully-electric off-road vehicle will be launched as a futuristic counterpart to the Wrangler, with many of the same features we love about the classic Jeep. For instance, the Recon will possess removable doors and a power-folding rooftop. Of course, the Recon will also come with electric 4×4 and meaty off-road tires to provide the incredible traction that Jeep is known for. We’re all waiting with bated breath to see what this new electric SUV will bring to the table when it comes to wilderness adventures.
2024 Wagoneer S
For devotees of the vehicles that would help shape what the SUV would eventually become, the Wagoner needs no introduction. First introduced in 1962 and synonymous with off-roaders, surfers, and aficionados of performance, the “king of the luxury SUV” was resurrected for the 2022 model year to much enthusiasm and fanfare. If there was excitement about the gasoline-fueled reincarnation, then jaws will drop in disbelief as the all-electric Wagoneer S is set to roll off the assembly line for the 2024 model year.
While the release of the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe showed what could be done with plug-in hybrid SUVs, the Wagoneer S will take things much further than anyone could have anticipated. The available information is still limited, but what’s been reported so far is definitely exciting. The Wagoneer S is purported to have an unprecedented range of 400 miles on a single charge and boasts 600 hp, allowing the SUV to go from 0-60 mph in a mere 3.5 seconds. Like many of its electric siblings, the Wagoneer S will draw influence from the gasoline-fueled vehicles that have been produced for several years.
2024 Jeep Avenger
As of now, there are no definite plans for the new Jeep Avenger to make an appearance on American shores. The all-electric Avenger will be limited to European markets for the time being, but the innovation and design of the vehicle are worth mentioning, as they allow Jeep to compete with the European manufacturers who are converting large portions of their fleets to EV powertrains. The Avenger is set to be the all-electric SUV for the average consumer. A subcompact crossover that is close in size to the Jeep Renegade, it competes against options like the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS and has an excellent chance of surpassing both in style and performance. It’s believed that aside from having a variety of drive modes to adapt to different terrains, the Avenger will have a range of 250 miles on a single charge.
The Future Is Awaiting You
The enthusiasm and excitement regarding Jeep’s future plans for an EV fleet are certainly understandable. While other brands are concerned with manufacturing new models, Jeep has taken a different route, one that’s in line with the brand loyalty and expectations of the many devotees of the manufacturer. Vehicles such as the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, and Wagoneer, which have long been revered, are now being equipped with technology that not only maintains their high levels of performance but allows consumers to avoid the pump altogether and do their part to reduce the emissions that are released into the earth’s atmosphere.
At Orange Coast CJDRF, you’ll find the latest and greatest electric offerings from the current Jeep fleet, as well as a wide variety of used vehicles that are held to the highest standards for quality. With so much to look forward to and so much that they’ve already accomplished, it’s safe to say that there’s a Jeep on our lot that’s waiting here for you.
