The Wagoneer Returns: Our Favorite Features

Jeep established itself in the 1940s when it delivered a light reconnaissance vehicle to the American military to aid in World War II. Several years later, the Willys Jeep made its way to the civilian market, and by the 1960s, models like the Wagoneer proved four-wheel drive capability was no longer mutually exclusive with luxury. This is the heritage we see continued in the all-new Wagoneer brand and the reintroduction of the Wagoneer itself, both of which you’ll find right here at your LA Wagoneer dealership.
This heritage started in 1962 when Jeep introduced the Wagoneer as the father of all luxury four-wheel-drive SUVs. It gave drivers everything they wanted and more, from its plush interior and exceptional ride quality to its capability on and off the pavement. So, how does the 2022 Wagoneer compare? Here are a few of our favorite features that you won’t want to miss on the return of this legendary icon.
#1 Next-Generation Power and Efficiency
The heart of the Wagoneer tells us a lot about the road warrior and starts with the 5.7-liter V8 engine under its hood. The engine delivers 392 horsepower, 404 lb-ft of torque, and a best-in-class towing capacity of 10,000 pounds. Where it truly shines, however, is its efficiency.
The legendary V8 engine is fitted with the next-generation eTorque hybrid system that prioritizes efficiency without sacrificing performance. It relies on a 48-volt battery pack to seamlessly start and stop the engine. This minimizes fuel consumption when idling and optimizes performance by sending up to 130 lb-ft of torque the moment you step on the accelerator.
#2 Legendary Capability: Three Four-Wheel Drive Systems
While the Wagoneer brand is separate from Jeep, the lineups share Jeep’s legendary four-wheel drive systems, and that means big things are in store for the 2022 Wagoneer. The Wagoneer gives you the choice between three four-wheel drive systems: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II. You’ll also find the Wagoneer offers unique tools like the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension and Selec-Terrain traction management system, which we’ll get to in a moment.
The Quadra-Trac I system is a full-time four-wheel drive system that’s lightweight enough to minimize fuel consumption but intuitive enough to automatically engage the system as needed. This means that there are no switches or buttons to push to engage four-wheel drive, which gives you the freedom to navigate the terrain ahead, knowing that the system will automatically improve traction. The Quadra-Trac II system is a two-speed transfer case that monitors the tires for slippage. When it senses a loss of traction, it can send up to 100 percent of available torque to the wheel with the most traction to help the Wagoneer keep its grip on the road.
The Quadra-Drive II system is the most advanced four-wheel drive system available on the Wagoneer and equips the SUV with a rear electronic limited-slip differential. Delivering the best traction in the industry, the system constantly monitors the tires and terrain to distribute torque as needed. It goes one step further by actively anticipating low traction and sending torque to proactively minimize slippage.

#3 Need a Lift? Quadra-Lift Air Suspension
The Wagoneer offers a Quadra-Lift air suspension system that gives you the ability to tailor the SUV’s height for the terrain or situation at hand. Normal Ride Height sets the Wagoneer at 8 inches of ground clearance for outstanding efficiency on the road. Off-Road 1 and Off-Road 2 lift the vehicle 1 to 2 inches, respectively, for up to 10 inches of ground clearance. Park Mode lowers the Wagoneer by 1.6 inches for easier access, while Aero Mode lowers the SUV by 0.6 inches for optimal performance and aerodynamics.
#4 Custom Performance on Any Terrain
Wagoneer gives you even more control of the SUV with the Selec-Terrain traction management system that allows you to customize how the SUV performs based on the terrain. Auto mode adapts the SUV for the situation at hand, while Sport mode tunes the steering and shift patterns to make the Wagoneer more fun to drive. Rock mode engages the Quadra-Lift air suspension to raise the SUV to a maximum height of 10 inches while giving you more control at low speeds with other adjustments. Snow and Sand/Mud modes optimize traction and performance on slick terrain.
#5 High-Tech Safety Wherever You Go
There’s no shortage of cutting-edge technology on the 2022 Wagoneer, as we’ve seen with just a quick glimpse at features like the Quadra-Lift air suspension. Fortunately for drivers, this technology extends even further to a suite of high-tech safety and driver-assist tools that give you the confidence you deserve when you’re behind the wheel. For 2022, the Wagoneer offers over 120 safety features, including standard tools like Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Active Lane Management, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection, and Rear Park Assist Sensors with Stop.
The Wagoneer’s innovative technology extends to its suite of enhanced features that truly set the SUV apart in the segment. The Wagoneer offers autonomous driving via tools like Active Driving Assist and Hands-Free Active Driving Assist that allow you to take your hands off the wheel for more convenience. Night Vision with Pedestrian and Animal Detection equips the SUV with night vision to reduce the risk of accidents after dark. The all-new Digital Rearview Camera replaces the traditional rearview mirror with an LCD screen that gives you a wider and less obstructed, real-time view behind the SUV at all times.

#6 Stay Connected, Stay Informed
Just when you think the Wagoneer can’t get any better, it raises the bar yet again. The 2022 Wagoneer is designed to keep you and your passengers connected and informed. The heart of this connectivity is found in the Wagoneer’s state-of-the-art Uconnect 5 infotainment system that’s faster than ever and offers over-the-air updates that ensure you’re operating the latest software whenever you’re behind the wheel. What’s even better is that the system offers a host of features via an expansive suite of touchscreen displays, from the 10.1-inch or 10.2-inch center display to the 10.25-inch Co-Pilot passenger display.
The UConnect 5 system offers a fully customizable home screen and split-screen capability that gives you the option to use multiple apps at once. You can wirelessly sync your smartphone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto integration, enjoy SiriusXM 360L satellite radio, or navigate the quickest route with TomTom navigation. You’ll also find the system is home to a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot that turns the Wagoneer into a mobile office or entertainment venue that can support up to 8 devices.
#7 Fire TV
Just as you’ll stay connected and informed in the driver’s seat, your passengers will have the same luxury along with a few more entertainment options. Offering up to 11 USB ports for charging, the Wagoneer can be equipped with a rear seat entertainment system that offers the industry’s first Fire TV for Auto. This equips the second row with dual 10.1-inch touchscreen displays that are home to Alexa as well as thousands of television shows, apps, and movies.
Now, It’s Your Turn!
What’s your favorite feature on the 2022 Wagoneer? We love everything the Wagoneer has to offer and the way it distinguishes itself from the Jeep brand while simultaneously offering Jeep’s legendary capability. This is apparent in the Wagoneer’s three four-wheel drive systems and the Selec-Terrain traction management system. It distinguishes itself by redefining the “American premium” experience with an SUV that proves adventures can be both ruggedly fun and luxurious at the same time.
