Which Jeep Models Have Removable Doors and Tops?

Jeep models are known for having a customizable exterior. You can remove the doors or tops, making them one of the most desirable cars out there. In fact, all Jeep Wranglers, Gladiators, and the Wrangler Unlimited include the option for removable doors. Removable soft and hard-tops are available for these Jeep models as well. Many special edition Jeeps also have removable or no doors, including the Wrangler Sport, Freedom Edition, Willys Wheeler, Rubicon, Rubicon Recon, Sahara, Sport S, and Altitude.

These modular models tend to harken back to the days of the original army Jeep in design and fearless capability. They are designed to be adaptable and easy to drive in all conditions. As a brand overall, Jeep has come a long way since then. While many of its models still fall into the old design with removable features, there are also many other options for those who don’t want detachable doors and tops. And today, we at Orange Coast CJDR are going to tell you a bit more about these options.

Jeep Wrangler (A Modular Vehicle)

The Jeep Wrangler is probably the most recognizable of the Jeep models. With its design remaining close to the original model, many are excited when they see a Wrangler drive by. When you think of a car with removable doors and top, you think of the Wrangler. This model is designed to be the ultimate adventure vehicle. The four-wheel drive, traction, maneuverability, suspension, and ground clearance make it perfect for adventuring to new places both on and off the road.

Along with its exterior customizability, the Wrangler also offers several options for under the hood. The 2.0L turbo engine and the 2.0L turbo with eTorque offer 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0L EcoDiesel engine offers 260 hp and an impressive 422 lb-ft of torque. Finally, the standard engine is the 3.6L Pentastar V6, which produces 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine also comes in a mild hybrid form with the eTorque. The mild-hybrid system adds low-end torque, which gives it extra starting power. This is especially useful for those who plan to be crawling over rocks.

With the ability to remove and replace the doors and top, the Wrangler is ideal for both the summer and winter seasons. Current Wrangler models may have heated seats, a heated steering wheel, or even heated exterior mirrors to help in the winter. Wranglers are also designed with water-resistant removable carpets and one-way floor drain valves to make cleaning up after a day rolling through nature a breeze. Also, even though you can take most of the exterior off, the Wrangler still has plenty of available cargo space, and a Trail Rail system to secure your items down with if you need to. This vehicle really is the best option for those who like to get out on the road and beyond.

Jeep Gladiator (A Modular Vehicle)

A gray 2021 Jeep Gladiator with no roof or doors is shown from above driving on a beach near Costa Mesa, CA.

The Jeep Gladiator is new for 2020. Although Jeep introduced a pick-up called the Comanche for 1986, it was discontinued by 1992. The new Jeep Gladiator is reminiscent of the Wrangler’s styling cues, molded into the form of a mid-size pick-up. Its four-door crew cab fits you and the whole family, and a 5-foot cargo bed leaves plenty of space for everything else. The cargo bed essentially replaces the cargo space found in a four-door Wrangler. Like the Wrangler, this Jeep model is modular, with the doors and roof designed to be removable.

For this exciting new ride, Jeep doesn’t fail to impress on its range of options. Its current trim levels include familiar forms like the Sport, the Sport S, the Overland, and the Rubicon, while also adding the Mojave. All trims come with four-wheel drive and a 3.6-liter V6 engine that gives you 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Choose between a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic. The Sport is the base trim, but even this is equipped with respectable technology, like Bluetooth, voice control, a rearview camera, and a 5-inch central display. The Sport S trim adds power windows, doors, tailgate locks, and heated rearview mirrors.

Adventurous drivers can take the journey off the beaten trail with improvements for crawling and climbing. Jeep throws in 33-inch all-terrain tires, electronic disconnectable front stabilizer, and Fox shock absorbers that will let you go almost anywhere. For off-roading in the desert, there’s the specially designed Mojave trim. Its unique transfer case enables drivers to take on higher speeds using low-range gear that’s desert-rated and ready to go.

Jeep Cherokee

The Jeep Cherokee is a longtime hallmark of the Jeep line. It was one of the first vehicles to break from the traditional body structure of Jeep. Initially envisioned as a family car in 1974, the Cherokee was Jeep’s version of popular station wagon models of the time. The Cherokee first resembled a station wagon but has since evolved into a smooth and sporty compact crossover SUV.

The Cherokee’s suite of safety features will ease the mind of even the most skittish driver. Starting with a high-strength steel frame, the Cherokee manages to incorporate the highest number of airbags in class. A variety of advanced technological safety systems are included to keep you safe. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection notify you if there is a vehicle nearby that you’re unable to see.

Lanesense lane departure warns you if you are unintentionally drifting into another lane. This high-end technology even corrects your steering for you. The Cherokee also features electronic stability control and a full-speed forward-collision warning system with active braking. If you are approaching another vehicle too quickly, you’ll be alerted and sometimes even stopped in your tracks before an accident ensues.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

If you are considering a mid-size SUV from Jeep, take a look at the Cherokee’s big brother. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a safe and reliable vehicle with handsome interiors across all of its seven trim levels. Even the base Laredo includes a whopping array of amenities. You’ll get a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay support. A six-speaker sound system creates the perfect environment for an entertaining ride.

Under the hood, the Grand Cherokee features a 293 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine, which boasts 260 lb-ft of torque. Once you get above the base model, you have the option to give your Grand Cherokee a power boost to a 360 horsepower, 5.7-liter V8 engine that sports 390 pounds per foot of torque.

The Limited is equipped with heated seats and steering wheel, along with a remote starter to warm you up in the winter. A power liftgate, leather interior, and an 8.4-inch touch screen make for an enticing upgrade. If you have an adventurous streak and enjoy off-roading, the Trailhawk trim level was made for you. It comes with four-wheel-drive and Quadra-Trac 2 supplying constant power to the front and rear axles so that you never have to switch settings. Trailhawks also have Quadra-Drive 2 for selectable traction control on all terrains. Quadra-Lift’s adjustable air suspension guarantees a smooth ride. The Trailhawk puts you in control of rocky and unpredictable roadways.

At the Summit level, Jeep embodies the essence of luxury. Along with all the base model features, active-noise canceling a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and exquisite leather upholstery set the tone for high-end comfort. The SRT, Trackhawk, Overland, and the Limited Grand Cherokees are each carefully crafted with flexibility and function in mind.

Jeep Renegade

For another quality crossover, Jeep offers the Renegade. It is a subcompact SUV with a kick. The Jeep Renegade has an excellent off-road capability with optional four-wheel drive. The base model is the Sport, equipped with head and power-adjustable mirrors to improve visibility in cold weather, a 5-inch touchscreen display, a 60/40 folding rear seat, and a removable cargo floor panel for additional storage. The Renegade Sport even has a USB port and a six-speaker sound system.

For additional options, the Sport has two feature packages. Sport appearance adds roof rails, privacy glass, and 17-inch alloy wheels. On the other hand, the Uconnect 7.0 group is more technologically-focused with dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, smartphone integration, and a 7-inch touchscreen.

Once you get to the Latitude trim level, those two packages become standard. To further sweeten the deal, you’ll also get automatic headlights, ambient LED lighting, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and upgraded cloth upholstery. If you live in a chilly climate, you might consider the Cold Weather group that provides heated front seats and steering wheel with automatic wipers that contain de-icers. The Trailhawk’s off-roading package comes complete with all-terrain tires, four-wheel drive, a full-sized spare, and many other desirable features for off-road safety and finesse.

For a little extra luxury, you’ll love the Limited trim. Its upgraded display, auto-dimming rear mirror, and keyless ignition are just the tip of the iceberg for the range of upgrades provided. The Limited Renegade even includes the Cold Weather group as standard.
