There is nothing more iconic than an American muscle car, and there are few muscle cars that are as iconic as the Dodge Charger. The 2022 Dodge Charger represents the seventh generation of this legendary fastback sedan that was brought back to the market in 2006 after a 20-year hiatus. The folks at Stellantis have worked with the Dodge team to deliver a Charger that leverages modern technology on a platform that delivers retro good looks and fantastic performance.
The 2022 Dodge Charger is an ideal model for a driver who wants the most out of the performance in a muscle car that can break speed records without breaking the bank. This is why the Charger comes in affordable, lower-priced models with solid performance and also more expensive trims that deliver insane levels of speed and acceleration. While the prices on the 2022 Charger might seem like a steal to you, Dodge has included a new deluxe security alarm on most models so that you will have the peace of mind that your Charger won’t get stolen. Considering the great looks and amazing performance of the 2022 Charger, this is a valid concern for owners, so having an advanced alarm system protecting your muscle car is always a good thing.

Dodge offers the 2022 Charger in seven different trims, two of which are available as all-wheel drive, an interesting option on a performance sedan. The base model is the Charger SXT, with an MSRP of $32,500.[a] This trim comes rear-wheel drive standard, with available all-wheel drive for an additional charge. The Charger SXT comes equipped with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine.
The Charger GT is also rear-wheel drive standard with available all-wheel drive and the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. This model adds a hood scope for improved air intake, a performance suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers, and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters for the transmission. The Charger GT also has a larger touchscreen on the Uconnect system.
The Charger R/T comes equipped with the larger 5.7-liter HEMI V8 and is rear-wheel drive only. It also has a performance suspension and Bilstein shock absorbers. The Charger Scat Pack comes in standard and widebody styling, with rear-wheel drive only. The widebody model has an additional 3.5-inches of exterior width, which translates into an extra 1.5 to 2 inches of track width on the front and rear axles. This model of the 2022 Charger also features a 6.4-liter HEMI 392 V8.
The Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye is only available as a widebody with rear-wheel drive. This model is equipped with a 6.2-liter HEMI High-Output Supercharged V8. The top model is the Charger Jailbreak which features a more powerful version of the engine on the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody and has many customizable features that you can order from Dodge. As a result, you will find it easy to personalize your Charger Jailbreak, with a choice of exterior badges, exterior paint choices with optional racing stripes, different colored Brembo Brake calipers, wheel rim designs, and interior finishes. Once you’ve chosen all the options on the Charger Jailbreak, you’ll feel like it is completely yours.
The 2022 Dodge Charger features four different engine options, each tied to a specific model. The base engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which comes on the SXT and GT trims of the Charger. This engine features variable valve timing to provide more efficient performance and has 24 valves in a chain-driven dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) configuration. This engine has an aluminum block with aluminum alloy cylinder heads. It utilizes sequential multiport electronic returnless fuel injection to produce 292 horsepower at 6350 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque at 4800 rpm on rear-wheel drive models. If you choose the optional all-wheel drivetrain on either the SXT or GT, you will get 300 horsepower at 6350 rpm and 264 lb-ft of torque at 4800 rpm.
The Charger R/T is the only model equipped with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8. Nicknamed the Eagle, this engine has exclusive fuel saver technology to improve overall fuel economy. It has 16 valves in a pushrod-operated overhead configuration, with eight deactivating and eight conventional hydraulic lifters. This engine features a deep-skirt cast-iron block with aluminum alloy cylinder heads. Like the V6 engine, it uses sequential multiport electronic returnless fuel injection to provide up to 370 horsepower at 5250 rpm and 395 lb-ft of torque at 4200 rpm.
The Scat Pack models of the 2022 Dodge Charger come equipped with a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 powered by SRT. This deep-skirt cast-iron block engine has aluminum alloy heads and 16 valves in a pushrod-operated overhead camshaft design. These 16 valves all feature conventional hydraulic lifters. The engine uses sequential multiport electronic returnless fuel injection with a Fuel Saver mode feature to reduce emissions and fuel consumption. The 6.4-liter V8 is capable of producing up to 485 horsepower at 6100 rpm and 475 lb-ft of torque at 4100 rpm.
The most powerful engine on the 2022 Dodge Charger is featured on the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody and Jailbreak models. This is a 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat Supercharged High Output V8. The one on the Jailbreak model is slightly more powerful than the one on the Hellcat. This engine features a deep-skirt cast-iron block with aluminum alloy heads. It features a pushrod-operated overhead single camshaft design with 16 valves and 16 hydraulic roller lifts while utilizing sequential multiport electronic returnless fuel injection. The SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody can deliver up to 797 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 707 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm, while the engine on the Jailbreak model boosts this to an eye-popping 807 horsepower.
Dodge has equipped each 2022 Charger with a Torqueflite 8-speed automatic transmission. All models except the Charger SXT feature paddle shifters to give you manual control without the hassle of a clutch.
The 2022 Dodge Charger provides surprisingly good fuel economy, depending on which model you choose. Probably the best is to be found in the SXT and GT models with their 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 gas engines. Both of these trade some performance in order to make them more fuel-efficient. If you choose to stick with the standard rear-wheel drive, you will get 19 miles per gallon in the city, 30 miles per gallon on the highway, and 23 miles per gallon combined. Opting for available all-wheel drive will drop fuel economy slightly to 18 miles per gallon in city driving, 27 miles per gallon on the highway, and 21 miles per gallon combined.
Both the R/T and Scat Pack models have engines with fuel saver technology. As a result, you should get an estimated 16 miles per gallon in the city, 25 miles per gallon on the highway, and 19 miles per gallon combined in the Charger R/T. Meanwhile, the two Scat Pack trims get 15 miles per gallon in city driving, 24 miles per gallon on the highway, and 18 miles per gallon combined.
The 2022 Charger Jailbreak and SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody models are built for speed. As a result, their engines are not the most fuel-efficient. You can expect only 12 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway.
The main reason to buy a 2022 Dodge Charger is for the car’s speed. This is one truly fast vehicle. Even the entry-level SXT and GT models with their V6 engines will get you from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 6.4 seconds. However, if you really want to burn up the track, you should choose either the Jailbreak or SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody with the 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat Supercharged High-Output V8 engine. This engine will get the Charger from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a blistering 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 203 miles per hour. What’s more, you can complete the 1/4–mile in either of these top model Chargers in only 10.6 seconds at 129 miles per hour. In comparison, the SXT and GT need a full 14.9 seconds to cover the same distance at 95 miles per hour.
Every 2022 Dodge Charger comes equipped with a Uconnect infotainment system. This technologically advanced feature combines various entertainment, connectivity, and vehicle information systems into one seamless unit. All of the models of the 2022 Charger, except the SXT, have an 8.4-inch color touchscreen, making this system easy to see and simple to use. The SXT model has a slightly smaller 7-inch touchscreen.
The Uconnect system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you will have no trouble pairing your iPhone or smartphone, allowing you to easily access all of your favorite apps. You can also easily stream music over the Uconnect system. All models of the 2022 Charger feature a 6-speaker audio system, while you can also opt for a Harman Kardon audio system on all trims except the GT and SXT. This premium sound system features 19 GreenEdge speakers and will turn your Charger into a mobile concert hall.
Dodge has made its performance pages available on the Uconnect system. This will let you select the drive mode, activate the Charger’s Launch Control, and check your engine gauges, all from the ease of the Uconnect touchscreen.
Dodge offers up to 80 different standard and available safety and security features on the 2022 Charger. Each model features a ParkView Rear Back Up Camera that will make pulling out of a parking space in your Charger safer and easier than ever. This camera provides gridlines on your Uconnect touchscreen that you can use to safely guide yourself into or out of any space. These are especially helpful if your Charger is parked in a tight space.
The Charger also features the ParkSense Rear Park Assist System. This works with the ParkView camera and will engage the emergency brakes if it detects another vehicle or obstacle in your path when you have your Charger in reverse. Finally, the Charger comes with standard Ready Alert Braking. This will engage the emergency brakes if the system detects that you have released the accelerator pedal in a sudden motion. This is especially helpful as it reduces the time it takes to move your foot from the accelerator to the brake.
