  • Overview

A silver 2022 Grand Wagoneer Series II is angled left.

Welcome to the renaissance: the reintroduced, all-new, and completely reimagined 2022 Grand Wagoneer is here, and the anticipation couldn’t have been higher. Poised to enter the ultra-exclusive premium SUV segment, the Grand Wagoneer seeks to dethrone the old guard with an entirely new approach to luxury and capability. What’s different about the Grand Wagoneer? A lot, beginning with the perfect marriage of history and modern-day innovation.

Badged with Wagoneer emblems and built for refined luxury, the 2022 Grand Wagoneer adopts the American Premium theme for its Summer 2021 launch. Discovering the Grand Wagoneer is like uncovering layers of buried treasure. It’s designed to evoke a multi-sensory response, with finishes that are as comfortable as they are beautiful and infotainment technology that delivers uncommon features, like a 1,375-watt, 23-speaker McIntosh audio system.

Competing in the premium luxury SUV category means thinking outside the box. These vehicles need to deliver refinement and space, of course, but they also need brag-worthy features that contribute additional utility. The Grand Wagoneer is full of innovations, like an onboard safe for storing valuables and an available dual 10.1-inch screen rear entertainment system that streams Amazon Fire TV.

Other more universally-available features one would expect to find on a luxury SUV are also present on the new 2022 Grand Wagoneer. You’ll find LED headlights and taillights, a hands-free power rear liftgate, and a variety of elegant wheel designs to choose from - and that’s just the beginning. From bumper to bumper, the Grand Wagoneer personifies luxury and refined elegance.

Combining good looks, an abundance of space, and over-the-top luxury might be enough for some automakers, but the Grand Wagoneer also excels at safety. With over 120 potential safety features working together to deliver unparalleled security while on the road, the Grand Wagoneer also delivers peace-of-mind. In short, the new 2022 Grand Wagoneer is extraordinary.

  • Trims

A black 2022 Grand Wagoneer is shown from the side parked in front of a rock face.

The Grand Wagoneer Series I, starting at an MSRP of $86,995, incorporates many of the luxury features this premium SUV will be known for. This includes a 12-inch Uconnect infotainment touchscreen, a Panoramic Tri-Pane Sunroof that spans nearly the entire length of the vehicle, luxurious Nappa leather-trimmed seats with 24-way power adjustment and a massage feature in the front row, and glossy black roof paint that adds depth to the Grand Wagoneer’s curb profile.

Next up, the Grand Wagoneer Series II, at a sticker price of $93,995, incorporates all the Series I’s standard equipment and adds 22-inch wheels and even fancier Premium Palermo Leather-Trimmed seats. It also includes more technology, such as ParkSense Automated Parking, which is a welcome addition for a vehicle of this size. Active Driving Assist also becomes an available feature on the Series II.

    Cream of the Crop

The Grand Wagoneer Obsidian starts at $98,995 and tweaks styling with a special Black Onyx front grille, badging, and matching roof rack. The unique Onyx theme continues inside, with custom dark onyx chiseled metal aluminum trim on the dash. An epic McIntosh audio system is also standard and equips the Grand Wagoneer with 23-speakers and 1375-watts of output. Finally, there is a dedicated 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen for the front passenger.

Rounding out the Grand Wagoneer’s trim lineup is the magnificent $103,995 Series III. Packed with standard luxury and advanced technology, the Series III includes all the features present in the less-expensive trims. It further adds exceptionally-luxurious Quilted Palermo Leather-Trimmed seats, unique interior and exterior colors, and even more for the ultimate premium experience.

  • Luxury

The black, tan, and woodgrain interior is shown in a 2022 Grand Wagoneer while overlooking city lights.

No premium luxury SUV is complete without a list of uncommon features that distinguish it from the competition. The 2022 Grand Wagoneer is full of these extra touches, and they can be found everywhere, from the exterior to the front center console. These are options that you’d never actually believe you need but will ultimately wonder how you ever lived without.

    Features

Buried deep inside the first-row console is the available vehicle safe, designed for touchpad access and activation. It’s a secure way to stow valuables before leaving your Grand Wagoneer with the valet or parking it at the long-term airport lot. And because it’s integrated with the console, the safe is unobtrusive and discreet.

Copper-hued privacy glass is another unique feature of the 2022 Grand Wagoneer. It matches the subtle metallic shade of its badging and hints at an interior that is loaded with muted wood accents, a delicate use of chrome, and soft, supple leather seating. Ambient interior lighting adds a refined mood to the cabin, and a discreet “Est. 1963” badge adorns the driver’s instrument panel, honoring the Grand Wagoneer’s long history.

    Technology

Infotainment and tech are usually reviewed as a standalone set of features, but with the 2022 Grand Wagoneer’s extensive array of systems, the scales are tipped to the elite luxury level. Dual touchscreens - a 12.0-inch and a 10.3-inch - inhabit prime real estate at the center of the dash. The smaller screen is dedicated to cabin comfort controls, while the larger screen is all about infotainment and connectivity. A separate 10.3-inch touchscreen is available for the front seat passenger, bringing the total number of front touchscreens to three.

The second row also features a shared 10.3-inch comfort screen located between the plush captain’s chairs, but opt for the available dual 10.1-inch touchscreen entertainment system, and passengers will stay entertained during long road trips. Speaking of entertainment, how does a 23-speaker, 1375-watt McIntosh audio system sound? This is the first time in nearly 20 years the legendary home audio manufacturer, founded in 1949, has designed an audio system for a vehicle.

  • Capability

A dark blue 2022 Grand Wagoneer is shown from the rear next to a man fly fishing.

The 2022 Grand Wagoneer starts off with a powerhouse engine, a massive 6.4-liter V8 that’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is standard across the lineup, and that’s a good thing because having 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque available means there’s plenty of power for any imaginable off-roading adventure. There are three different four-wheel drive systems to choose from - Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II - all designed for optimal performance in any on or off-road conditions.

    Off-Road Ready

Speaking of off-roading, don’t let the Grand Wagoneer’s good looks and luxury appointments fool you: it delivers 10 inches of ground clearance, buying it a water-fording capability of up to two feet. The standard Quadra-Lift adaptive air suspension will thrill drivers by offering a 3.6-inch swing in ride height. That means more aerodynamics at high speeds and more clearance on the trail. You can even manually select Park Mode and lower the Grand Wagoneer over an inch and a half for easy passenger entry.

    Ready to Tow

Towing is a breeze with the Grand Wagoneer, with the vehicle boasting a best-in-class max towing capacity of 10,000 pounds. There’s plenty of trailering-assist technology available to make the job even easier, too, so hauling a boat or RV is simple and safe. The powerful V8 engine delivers plenty of low-range torque, so accelerating from a full stop is smooth and unencumbered.
