  • Overview

If you’re in the market for a luxury full-size SUV, then the 2023 Grand Wagoneer L is the perfect place to start. While the Grand Wagoneer is technically a new model, it comes with some impressive history. The original Jeep Grand Wagoneer ran from 1962 all the way to 1991, offering the perfect balance between practical and powerful. It could carry the family while remaining off-road-capable, which is part of why it succeeded for decades. Once the Grand Cherokee came along, though, it took over the limelight, and the original Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s time came to a close.

After years of time to revamp, rebuild, and advance, the 2023 Grand Wagoneer L and its third-row seating are here to stay. Like the original concept, the new Grand Wagoneer L model also offers that great balance between family-friendliness and capability––the difference is that it’s more luxurious, more powerful, and more spacious than any Grand Wagoneer before it. The new Grand Wagoneer lineup is also much more aesthetically appealing, adding beautiful leather seating options and American walnut trim.

This new generation first debuted for the 2022 model year, but it's already seeing some important upgrades. For example, the release of the 2023 Grand Wagoneer L, which has an even stronger engine capable of producing 90 more horsepower than the 2022 Grand Wagoneer, meaning that it can tow up to 10,000 pounds. The new Grand Wagoneer L can haul up to 8 passengers while towing a camper and tackling uneven terrain––all while looking stylish and offering a plethora of modern technology features.

  • Capability

Fitting into a unique niche in the market, the Grand Wagoneer is a blend of ultimate luxury and off-roading grit. Who says that you can't be comfortable both on the road and while hitting the trails? Whether you’re a camping enthusiast or you do some sightseeing in nature, this new model has the power to take you there.

    Towing Capacity

First off, the 2023 Grand Wagoneer L offers best-in-class towing capacity, meaning that it can tow more than any other model in its segment. Other full-size SUVs tow a bit less, like the Chevy Suburban, for example. The Suburban’s tow capacity maxes out at 8,300 pounds, while the Grand Wagoneer’s max tow capacity is around 10,000 pounds––almost 2,000 pounds higher. This means that you can tow any important “fun items,” such as your ATV or UTV, boats, jet skis, and more, without having to worry about overloading your Wagoneer. Although this model isn’t made for hauling large, loaded, gooseneck livestock trailers, you can also haul small livestock trailers if you have a few horses, cattle, or pigs.

    4x4 Power

This model is capable both on and off the highway thanks to its standard Quadra-Drive® II 4x4 System. This automatic 4x4 system is active at all times. Put simply; you don’t have to manually activate 4WD when roads get rough. Your Grand Wagoneer L can detect when that 4x4 capability is needed and will distribute torque accordingly. In addition to this, the Grand Wagoneer also comes with a Selec-Terrain Traction Management System that adjusts traction needs according to the specified road condition. For example, if it’s snowy out, you can put it into “Snow Mode.” If you’re in a muddy or sandy area, lock it into “Mud/Sand Mode.”

Selec-Speed Control is present as well and includes both hill ascent and descent technologies. These tech features aid your performance during inclines and declines, especially when you’re towing a trailer. They make shifting easier and reduce transmission wear.

  • Tech & Interior

Looking nice is only part of the luxury-SUV experience. The next most exciting part of owning a luxury SUV is its technology features, and the 2023 Grand Wagoneer L is no exception. Plus, this model also has third-row seating and a best-in-class rear cargo area. Whether you’re hauling people or products, space is no issue.

    Luxury Levels of Technology

The 2023 Grand Wagoneer L comes with so much technology that there is 75 inches of screen space altogether. Not only do you get a touchscreen infotainment system, but you also get a comfort display, a front passenger display, and two second-row entertainment systems. Even the rear comfort-control system is digital.

From the main, 12-inch McIntosh infotainment system, you can control virtually any aspect of your model––the climate control, maps, applications, your phone, and much more. Below the infotainment system is your front-seat comfort display. This is where you can adjust your heated/ventilated seating temperatures. This screen is adjustable and can be flipped over to reveal hidden charging ports and the wireless device charger.

The Grand Wagoneer L’s most unique technology feature, the class-exclusive 10.25-inch Passenger Interactive Display allows passengers to watch videos, connect to Bluetooth, access the radio, and even control the Rear Seat Entertainment Displays. Using this system, passengers can even update GPS directions for the driver.

The Rear Seat Entertainment Displays are two separate 10.1-inch Amazon Fire screens that allow access to movies, games, streaming services, and much more. Coupled with the rear comfort-control system, there are three rear-seat touchscreen devices altogether. In addition to these technologies, drivers, of course, have Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a digital rearview mirror and an interior rear monitoring camera. 4-Zone Automatic Climate Control and 24-way Power Adjustable Massaging Seats are part of the Grand Wagoneer L as well. You can control the 2023 Grand Wagoneer L’s technologies via the Wagoneer app.

    A Premium Interior

Choose from three premium leather seating color choices––Agave Blue Hero, Tupelo Black, and Global Black––with a leather-trimmed center console and doors. Playing on the original Grand Wagoneer’s wood interior trim, the new model includes American walnut interior trim that accents standard metal surfacing. Both 2nd and 3rd-row seats are foldable, meaning that it’s simple to customize the passenger-to-cargo ratio.

  • Safety

A black 2023 Grand Wagoneer L is shown from the rear driving on an open road.

One of the most important factors to consider in a full-size SUV is safety. A true family-friendly model will include standard safety features that help keep you and your family secure on the road. Thanks to over 120 standard safety features (meaning that they come on all trims at no additional cost), the 2023 Grand Wagoneer L meets all of our safety expectations.

Luxury, Off-Roading, and Safety Go Hand in Hand

Six main driver-assist technologies come with the 2023 Grand Wagoneer. You’ll get the ParkSense Automated Parking System, which helps you park and is especially useful for parallel parking. This model also includes Pedestrian and Cyclist Emergency Braking, which can detect people or cyclists when they cross in front of the Grand Wagoneer, automatically braking when necessary. The 360° Surround View Camera is present to monitor parking areas.

Let’s take a closer look at the other three features:

    • Active Lane Management System – This technology uses sensors to detect road lanes and can alert you when you’re unintentionally drifting into another lane. It can also provide light steering corrections when this occurs.
    • Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking – Sensors help you maintain the proper distance between you and the vehicle ahead by sending alerts when you get too close to another model. It will also automatically apply the brakes if you don’t react quickly enough.
    • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go – Maintain proper distance between you and the vehicle ahead. You can choose a specific distance and speed.

There are several available add-on safety features as well, including a Night Vision Camera with both Animal and Pedestrian Detection, Intersection Collision Assist, and Drowsy Driver Detection. Traffic Sign Recognition is also available.
