The 2023 Gladiator continues to break the mold by being the most off-road-ready midsize pickup truck on the market, exuding a bold sense of confidence with its rugged stance and unmatched performance. The Wrangler-esque capabilities combined with pickup truck sensibilities haven't ceased to appeal to enthusiast truck drivers. However, that appeal has been elevated with the new features and options for the 2023 model year.
New for the 2023 Jeep Gladiator is the Freedom Special Edition. This is a specially-designed Gladiator that taps into America's patriotic roots, featuring special Oscar Mike badging and American flag decals to go along with body-colored fender flares, steel rock rails, and winch-capable steel bumpers for the front and rear of the vehicle. An all-new Capability Package has also been added to the lineup for those who would like the winch-capable steel front bumper and steel rock rails with a front off-road camera fitted onto other trims. The 2023 model can also be fitted with American flag decals on the front fenders, giving it that true all-American look. Finally, an all-new High Velocity Yellow color scheme has been added to the lineup in place of the previous model year's Snazzberry.
Speaking of colors, you can get the Gladiator in nine different exterior color schemes, which include the aforementioned High Velocity. In addition to the new color, there is also Black, Bright White, Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Hydro Blue, Sarge Green, Silver Zynith, and Sting Gray. The 2023 Gladiator is also available in nine trims, including the Sport, Willys, Overland, Mojave, Rubicon, and High Altitude.

The 2023 Jeep Gladiator has two distinct powertrains of the V6 variety. There is the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which makes 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The Pentastar is available with a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive comes standard, geared for both on-road and off-road travels.
The four-wheel drive system does not prevent the Gladiator from achieving impressive towing feats as a midsize pickup truck. In fact, the Pentastar V6 is capable of towing up to 7,700 lbs. You can also take advantage of a maximum payload capacity of 1,710 lbs, making the Gladiator one of the leaders in its segment when it comes to practical pickup truck capabilities. However, if you feel like you need a more torque-heavy truck for off-roading, Jeep provides an option in the form of the 3.0-liter turbocharged EcoDiesel V6.
The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel is capable of producing 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque and is the only midsize diesel truck remaining on the market. The EcoDiesel is also paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and configured in four-wheel drive only. The EcoDiesel Gladiator manages a max towing capacity of up to 6,500 lbs, so you can tow a wide number of different items, from small campers to small vehicles and plenty more in between. The EcoDiesel also has a max payload of 1,350 lbs that you can haul in the rear bed, just like any other midsize pickup.
The biggest selling point of the 2023 Jeep Gladiator, apart from the rear pickup bed, is its off-road capabilities. A pickup truck designed to handle the rough-and-tumble lifestyle of off-roading has become a popular trend among automakers recently, but Jeep has always been at the forefront of off-road enthusiast driving, and the Jeep Gladiator is an excellent example. Every one of the Gladiator's nine trims is designed with different levels of off-roading in mind.
The Gladiator features multiple transfer case configurations for the lineup, including the Command-Trac part-time two-speed transfer case and the Selec-Trac transfer case with full-time four-wheel drive functionality. Both options have a 2.72:1 gear ratio for moderate off-roading. There is also the Rock-Trac full-time transfer case on the Gladiator Rubicon, which has a 4:1 gear ratio for even better utilization of low-end torque. With the Rock-Trac system, you can rock-crawl like no other truck in the segment. Enhanced by the Tru-Lok electronic locking front and rear differentials, the Rubicon allows you to maximize traction and momentum across uneven terrain, with the ability to lock the axles and make use of the different off-road modes for maximum control.
To help with off-road traversal and rock climbing, the Gladiator Rubicon comes with an electronic sway bar disconnect. Press the button on the dash, and you immediately get even more suspension articulation while traveling over rough terrain. While it doesn't have the same rock crawling features as the Rubicon, the Gladiator Mojave has a maximum approach angle of 44.7 degrees and a breakover angle of 20.9 degrees, thanks to the truck sporting up to 11.6 inches of ground clearance. On the Mojave, high-speed off-roading is the focus with larger FOX 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks, hydraulic jounce bumpers, and a rear differential you can lock even in 4Hi.
There are also plenty of features in place to ensure the Gladiator is as safe to drive as it is fun to drive. With options like the steel rock rails for added protection, and steel undercarriage skid plates, you're able to travel over and across all sorts of terrain without damaging the vehicle. It can even ford over 30 inches of water without issue. Front and rear tow hooks, along with Dana axles, make the Gladiator a highly functional off-road truck for all manner of occasions.
The ruggedness of the 2023 Jeep Gladiator can't be overstated, but it sometimes overshadows the Gladiator's comfort, convenience, and tech accouterments. The Gladiator isn't all just rough and tumble, even though that's a large part of its appeal. You also have a lot of great functionality, like the ability to go open-air, removing the doors and roof while lowering the windshield for a truly unrivaled driving experience in a midsize pickup truck. With the Gorilla glass windshield, you also have maximum protection from chips, cracks, and stress lines while charging through the wilderness.
The Gladiator can be equipped with a number of different roof options, from solid hard tops to zipperless soft tops to modular tops; there are a number of ways to conveniently configure the look of the Gladiator the way you want. That same kind of customization and modularity also applies to the cabin, with folding rear seats that you can adjust in multiple ways when you don't have passengers in the back. The Gladiator can comfortably seat up to five people across two rows, with two captain chairs up front and a split bench in the rear of the standard four-door crew cab.
Multiple cabin storage options are also available, from cupholders and map storage to a segment-exclusive lockable rear seat storage compartment. Available Nappa leather upholstery with heated seats, automatic temperature control, and several different interior color schemes adds a lot of variety to the comfort features within the Gladiator. These features are also enhanced with the standard Uconnect infotainment suite, featuring Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and an available 8.4-inch HD touchscreen with pinch and zoom.
With Bluetooth wireless connectivity and voice command pass-through, you can give commands and check the vehicle's status, apps, and navigation without ever having to take your hands off the steering wheel. Access off-road cameras, trailering apps, off-road pages, or user guides from the touchscreen. With the Uconnect mobile app, you can take advantage of the remote vehicle locator, remote start and stop, and remote lights and locks, all accessible from your smartphone. Combined with the latest active and passive safety features, such as Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection, ParkSense Rear Park Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Full Stop, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator is the complete package, packing lots of off-road functionality, safety, and modern tech into a single truck.
