About
The 2023 Ram 1500 TRX is the largest and most powerful pickup truck in the world. With its combination of unbeatable street performance and unbelievable off-road capability, it single-handedly created the supertruck segment when it was unveiled in 2021, ending the decade-long reign of the Ford F-150 Raptor in the process. This is a truck that can outrun a muscle car on the drag strip, then head off-road and show a Jeep who’s boss on the trail––and it can do it all while treating its passengers to a luxurious cabin filled with high-end features and exclusive details. If you want the best truck ever built, this is it.
For its third year on the market, the Ram 1500 TRX has seen some small improvements, with a couple of updates to make life on the road even better. Foremost among them is the new 12-inch digital driver display, which replaces the old-style analog gauges from the previous model year. With sharp, high-resolution graphics and customizable display options, this addition cranks the premium experience up a notch. Other new features include a UV light in the glove box to sanitize small items and an LED hitch light that simplifies hooking up a trailer in the dark. While these updates may be small, they are certainly helpful and make the 2023 model better than ever.
Starting at
At the heart of the 2023 Ram 1500 TRX is the monstrous 6.2L Hellcat engine. Originally developed for Dodge Challenger and Charger muscle cars, this supercharged HEMI V8 is the most powerful engine ever offered in a production pickup truck and offers a simply unbelievable ride. The roar of the V8 envelops you every time you press the gas pedal, with the aggressive supercharger whine letting you know that there isn’t any ordinary HEMI under the hood.
With 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque available under your foot, this truck can outrun almost anything on the road. The adjustable launch control allows the TRX to rocket off the line and hit 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, and aluminum paddle shifters on the steering wheel allow you to control every shift of the eight-speed automatic transmission. Should you feel like taking your truck to the drag strip, you can expect a quarter-mile time in the low 12s. That’s fast enough to beat a Mustang GT or Camaro SS if you do your part.
With an automatic two-speed transfer case and eight selectable drive modes, the 2023 Ram 1500 TRX provides a custom option for every situation. Unlike most four-wheel drive trucks, the TRX is designed for use on and off the pavement, offering a sports car-like rear torque bias that tends towards oversteering during performance driving. When placed in Sport or Baja mode, the TRX delivers up to 75% of its torque to the rear axle and cuts shift times by as much as 68% for maximum enjoyment. However, when it is time to hit the technical trails, you can choose from Mud/Sand and Rock mode, which offers a 50/50 torque split and traditional 4Lo for maximum traction in the toughest terrain.
When it comes to off-road features, the 2023 Ram 1500 TRX will not disappoint. The standard 35-inch all-terrain tires and available beadlock-capable wheels make a statement at first glance, demonstrating that the TRX is ready for anything. The available bed-mounted spare tire carrier is a great feature that lets you keep your spare ready for easy access out on the trail. Behind the massive tires are custom Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive shocks for the most advanced suspension in the segment.
These ultra-high performance shocks use remote reservoirs to maximize articulation and minimize overheating and even come with secondary Jounce Cutoff pistons to prevent the suspension from bottoming out when you hit large obstacles off-road. Because these shocks are controlled by a unique Bilstein algorithm that gathers information from a variety of sensors around the truck, they are just as comfortable on the streets as on the trail. They do not suffer from the common failings of off-road-oriented shocks.
With the factory-lifted suspension, the 2023 Ram 1500 TRX provides a stunning 11.8 inches of ground clearance––a full inch more than a Ram 1500 Rebel with its optional air suspension maxed out. Not only does this ground clearance allow you to drive over obstacles in the trail, but it will let you ford up to 32 inches of standing water, which is two inches more than a stock Jeep Wrangler. The TRX is also a full eight inches wider than a standard Ram 1500, giving you incredible stability, even during high-speed off-roading. Wherever your adventures take you, you can count on the Ram 1500 TRX to get you there and back safely.
The TRX can also be upgraded with a variety of options designed to improve performance on the trails. These options range from available rock rails and running boards to a RamBar that provides the perfect mounting point for lightbars and spotlights. Other options, such as the Trailer-Tow Group and Bed Utility Group, prepare the Ram 1500 TRX for a hard day’s work, allowing you to take full advantage of its 8,220 lbs of maximum towing capacity and 1,350 lbs of maximum payload. The end result is an extremely capable off-road machine that still provides all the traditional versatility of a full-size pickup truck.
As the world’s first supertruck, you can count on the 2023 Ram 1500 TRX to provide you with an interior that blends the best features of pickup trucks and sports cars. The black leather interior is highlighted with red stitching and exclusive TRX badging designed to create a sporty and luxurious atmosphere. Available real carbon fiber accents provide a true supercar feel, while the flat-bottom sport steering wheel with solid aluminum paddle shifters and the shift lever on the center console is designed to give you control over the vehicle at all speeds. However, the roomy crew cab still feels like a full-size truck and not a cramped sports car.
Premium features abound throughout the cabin, including a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system that provides concert-grade playback for your favorite media. A dual-pane panoramic sunroof lets in the light, illuminating both rows of seats equally. If you carry passengers regularly, you will find that is a theme for the TRX, making it a surprisingly comfortable family car. For instance, both rows offer heated and ventilated seats for maximum comfort, no matter the weather. Of course, the driver gets some extra features, including an eight-way power-adjustable seat with driver memory settings for the seat, pedals, mirrors, and infotainment settings.
New for 2023 is a large 12-inch digital instrument cluster placed behind the steering wheel. The customizable 3D graphics provide you with all the information you need to get the most from your truck, including full-screen navigation right where you can see it. This new instrument cluster combines with the 12-inch central infotainment touchscreen, available color head-up display, and available digital rearview mirror. Together, the four screens provide you with a comprehensive picture of your surroundings, your truck’s performance information, and your favorite apps and media.
Tying everything together behind the scenes is Ram’s latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system. Standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provide cord-free connectivity with your smartphone, and the 12-inch infotainment display allows split-screen functionality to access multiple apps simultaneously. An available wireless charger, designed to hold your smartphone securely when hitting the trail, allows you to cut the cord completely, but there are four USB-C ports and three 115-volt outlets if you want to charge multiple devices. Available built-in TomTom Navigation will even let you navigate to remote destinations outside of cell service––a necessary feature for a serious off-road truck.
