Used Ford Favorites

Naturally, at Orange Coast CJDRF, we see a lot of used cars. A lot of makes and a lot of models. We’re going to cover some of our favorite models, but in order to narrow things down just a bit, we are going to focus on some of our favorite used Fords for sale. So look no further than Orange Coast after you’ve run that search for “used cars near me.” We got you covered. Mostly we will discuss some of our favorite Fords that we see fairly often here on the used lot at Orange Coast: the Ford Escape, the Ford Edge, and, of course, the iconic Ford F-150 truck.
Before we get started, let’s just cover the distinction between crossover and SUV. First, to be clear, there are inconsistencies in the way the terms are used, so just keep that in mind. Usually, the word “SUV” is used as a catch-all term for both a crossover and an SUV. In general, “crossover” is used to describe a vehicle that is more a comfortable and spacious passenger vehicle than an off-roading utility vehicle. So although the vehicle has the exterior of an SUV, its strengths will not include climbing a rocky hill but will include transporting a crew of five comfortably with ample space for storage in a smaller, more nimble package (and often with higher fuel efficiency).
So now that we’ve all learned something new about SUVs, we’re going to give you some of our thoughts on some of our favorite used Fords for sale. While you might think we are only well versed in Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram models at Orange Coast, we are very familiar with Ford models. We are ready to help answer any questions you may have about Ford vehicles, and are more than willing to help you find the perfect model; it’s what we do!
The Popular Ford Escape

The compact SUV market is one of the most popular classes in the automotive industry, comprising a large percentage of total vehicle sales in the U.S. and therefore, it is quite competitive. But the Escape has twenty years of trial, error, and experience in its corner that gives it an edge on the competition.
The Escape is a compact crossover SUV now in its 20th year on the U.S. market, and it is in its fourth generation. The Escape is between the Edge (which we will cover shortly) and the subcompact Ecosport in size class.
Recent editions of the Escape offer a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with rapid acceleration, giving it a relative power advantage over many of its compact competitors. It usually fares well in terms of handling, comfort, and cargo space for its size class.
To give an idea of the trims available in the Escape, let’s look at the 2020 models (we will do the same for the Edge and F-150). There are four gas engine trims (S, SE, SEL, Titanium) and one hybrid (SE Sports Hybrid). It has been several years since Ford made a hybrid version of the Escape, so finding a used Escape Hybrid is not terribly likely. The Escape is a well-rounded compact SUV, a smart choice for a reasonable price in a crowded field. Customers will like the prices of used Escapes since the MSRPs for new models are already fairly priced.
The Well-Loved Ford Edge
The Edge is Ford’s midsize SUV that sits below the large Expedition and midsize Explorer but above the compact Escape and the subcompact Ecosport, now in its 13th year on the U.S. market and is currently in its second generation. The Edge is the middle child of the Ford SUV lineup, and it calls for its share of attention by winning plenty of awards.
The Explorer is one of Ford’s classics with universal name recognition, so in order to distinguish it from its midsize SUV sibling, the Edge had to go out and win some awards. In 2019, U.S. News & World Report named the Edge a finalist for Best 2-Row SUV for the Money, and the winner of the Best 2-Row SUV for Families award.
In 2020, the Edge features the SE, SEL, Titanium and the ST trims (the ST replaced the Sport trim in 2019). Other than the value found in the purchase of a used Ford Edge, this midsize SUV also gets good ratings in passenger and cargo space, fuel efficiency, and has excellent safety and reliability ratings.
A used Ford Edge is a great midsize 2-row SUV that should be considered by families shopping for a safe, reliable, and family-oriented ride.
The Eternal Ford F-150

Probably one of the most influential vehicles in U.S. history is the Ford F-150. When you think of this truck, it should bring up memories of trips with a trailer in tow, classic truck commercials on football Sundays, and that truck you borrowed from your parents in high school.
The F-150 is the quintessential American pickup truck and one of Ford’s most important models in history. The Ford F-series of trucks is going on its 72nd year and has definitely come a long way since it’s first model. The F-150, as we know it, came out of the 1970s and is still going strong. For 2020, the F-150 lineup is pretty sweet we have to say (check out the look on the 2020 F-150 Raptor for proof).
However, the number of F-150 trims has stayed very consistent over the last twenty years, going from six trims in 2000, six in 2010, and now seven trims in 2020. They include the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, and the Raptor.
There are numerous options depending on what you want the primary usage of your pickup to be. If you want more of a workhorse, we recommend going with a Regular Cab F-150, as this usually adds an additional foot or so of length to your truck bed for a sacrifice in passenger space since this is a truck with one-row for passengers. However, if you want more passenger space, you’ll want to look at a SuperCrew Cab as it has four doors and plenty of room for your family or friends.
Once you answer that question of what you need, then you can focus on styles, colors, and the bells and whistles. Remember, any used Ford F-150 can do the work when you need it to, or transport passengers safely with the latest technology and features. It’s not the best-selling truck in America for nothing.
