Which Trim Will You Choose for Your 2022 Ram 1500?

A white 2022 Dodge Ram is shown from the front while parked in front of a house after the owner searched 'Ram buyers guide'.

The 2022 Ram 1500 is being touted as “the most luxurious truck in its class,” and with plenty of standard and available features, it’s easy to see why. But which ones are worth investing in? Do you need to have every single available technology feature? Or are you looking for something more simple, with upgraded leather seating and perhaps a leather-covered steering wheel? If you’re looking for a Ram buyer’s guide, specifically a 2022 Ram 1500 buyer’s guide, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve got a rundown of what comes standard and the available options for each trim, and we’ve also included a few of our favorite features overall.

How Many Trims Does the 2022 Ram 1500 Have?

There are six trims in total for the 2022 Ram 1500. In order, they are the Tradesman, the Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, and the Limited. While this might seem like a lot, the benefit is that the Ram 1500 becomes much more customizable, able to suit a wide array of drivers instead of just a few who are looking for a specific type of truck. This way, you won’t be spending money on something you don’t need. Plus, there are special editions of this truck to help refine the style and options even more.

You can build the perfect pickup. Some of the features you can customize include a range of engine choices, suspension packages, luxury items, and technology add-ons. We’ll navigate through the trims so that you can see which one suits you best without having to do the legwork yourself.

The Tradesman

The standard model Ram 1500 still comes packed with features – remote keyless entry, an electric parking brake, a rear backup camera, trailer hitch light, and a new air filtration system. There’s also an 8.4-inch screen available with the UConnect system so that you can connect your phone, create your own profile, and personalize it however you want. The Tradesman comes with a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and is capable of towing up to 12,750 lbs. This model would be best for someone looking to buy their first pickup or a buyer who is looking to upgrade their work truck.

The Big Horn

Up next is the Big Horn, with a max of 395 horsepower. This big guy comes equipped with 18-inch aluminum wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel that includes audio controls, and fog lamps, along with in-floor storage (if you’re getting the crew cab version). If you’d like, you can add a few other things to make life simpler: the RamBox Cargo Management System, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and a 12-inch NAV touchscreen. Not only will this allow you to organize and store your tools, gear, or other equipment, you’ll also be able to go from your day job to nighttime or weekend adventures in the blink of an eye.

The Laramie

If you’re feeling a bit fancy, maybe take a gander at the Laramie trim. While it can’t tow quite as much as the two trims beneath it, that’s not really what it’s geared toward. You can still tow over 11,000 lbs, however, which means you can still take your toys to the lake or the forest for summer vacation. Features include LED headlamps, taillamps, and fog lamps, along with a 7-inch Premium Driver Information Digital Cluster Display, heated and ventilated seats as well as a heated steering wheel, a memory feature that saves the driver’s preferences for seat, mirrors, radio stations, and pedals, and a nine-speaker audio system from Alpine. This trim is for those who enjoy tailgate parties, fishing trips, and camping on their off time but still want a nice-looking vehicle for driving around town for work, errands, and picking up the kids from school.

The Rebel

The Rebel is exactly what it sounds like – a trim built for the more adventurous wanderers, those who go off-road to explore, and who might even be down for any number of adrenaline-pumping activities. A sport performance hood, 33-inch tires, black wheel flares, and a locking rear axle are what you’ll find on the Ram 1500 Rebel trimmed truck, which means it’s ready to drive off the lot and into the sunset for a wild ride.

Available features include the multifunction tailgate that has swing-away doors, an Advanced Safety Group system that comes with both parallel and perpendicular parking assist, an off-road group (if you’re getting the 4×4) of tools, and a 360-degree trailer surround-view camera. Getting down and dirty is what the Rebel loves best, so if you love mudding, off-roading, or taking your horses to a remote riding trail, this is the pickup for you.

The Limited Longhorn

This shiny trim will ensure that everyone sees what you’re flaunting. Complete with chrome door handles, bumpers, a grille, side steps, and a tow hook, the Limited Longhorn knows how to stand out from the crowd. Your admiring family and friends will want to feel the leather-trimmed bucket seats, a wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel, real metal, wood, and leather accents inside the cab, and the 20-inch aluminum wheels. The show pony of the group, the Limited Longhorn is for those who like to hit the town, grab a few drinks, and check out the car show or rodeo, all the while knowing that your truck is actually the star of the show.

The Limited

Last but certainly not least is the Ram 1500 Limited, a powerhouse due to its 5.7L Hemi V8 engine. It is certainly the most luxurious of the trims, with dual-zone automatic climate control, leather detailing, power running boards, and four-corners air suspension. Are you looking for a truck to haul your camper but want a comfortable drive to the campsite? The Limited is the trim you’ll want. You can also upgrade the stereo system to a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system to listen to your favorite playlist as you set up camp or sing along while you’re sitting around the fire with friends old and new.

Our Favorite Features

If we were able to pick and choose which features to include in our build of the Ram 1500, we’d go with the air suspension package for a smooth ride. Add the dual-pane panoramic sunroof for those days or nights where you’ve got a gorgeous view but can’t stop to admire it for too long. Get the heated and ventilated seats so that no matter the weather, everyone can get comfortable. Finally, put in the RamBox Cargo Management system for a simple time packing up and unpacking between trips.

There are quite a few other features as well, but we don’t want to spoil the surprise, so we’ll just mention one more. It’s a unique feature, one that might predict what we’ll all be driving in the very near future. With either the V6 or V8 engine, there’s an additional aid––a 48-volt hybrid system called the eTorque Mild Hybrid System. It helps improve fuel economy but doesn’t allow for less power or torque while being able to perform well in extreme temperatures.
